Doctoral Admission Test in Education

 

As recommended by the College of Education faculty and subsequently approved by the University Council in March 1989, every student seeking admission to the Ph.D. program of the College must pass the DATE. The test aims to assess

  • mental aptitude

  • language proficiency

  • research competency

The test contains six subjects for a total maximum score of 200 points, distributed as follows:

  • Abstract Reasoning (Figural)

  • Vocabulary

  • Verbal Analogies

  • Numeral Facility and Quantitative Reasoning

  • Reading Comprehension

  • Writing and Research Ability

The DATE yields scored on

  • reasoning ability

  • quantitative ability

  • verbal ability

Tests 1 to 4 are of the objective (multiple choice) type. Tests 5 and 6 are of the essay type.

 

The tests are separately timed. The total testing time is 180 minutes or three (3) hours.

 

DATE is administered in the College of Education thrice a year: May, October and March

 

Examinees are informed within two weeks after the test if they meet the criterion score.

 

Examinees who do not qualify the first time can apply for a retake. If he fails a second time, he will be permanently disqualified from admission to the Ph.D. program in the College of Education.
