Being a graduate of the Asian Music Program, she was able to acquire the skills
of playing various Asian indigenous instruments such as the Japanese Koto,
Indonesian Gamelan, and Philippine traditional instruments such as the Kulintang
and Kalinga bamboo instruments which she currently teaches under the Department
of Music Research. She likewise plays the piano and other percussion instruments
such as the darbouka, conga, and Brazilian surdo.
Aside from being a music teacher, she is also a performing artist playing alongside excellent recording artists such as Joey Ayala, Grace Nono, Bob Aves, Cynthia Alexander. She has already performed in various music festivals including the Rainforest World Music Festival in Sarawak, Malaysia; Diaspora World Music Festival in London; and the Cultural Center of the Philippines' Musiko Mundo.
At present, Ms. Matute is a member of two dynamic performing groups. MusiKalinangan, an all-female group and graduates of Asian Music playing mostly Philippine indigenous instruments and giving lecture-demonstrations about Philippine Music; and Hairy Dawgs, an all-percussion group playing Brazilian samba.
