Soprano Fides Cuyugan-Asensio is an institution in the cultural life of the Philippines.
A profile singer, actress, librettist, lyricist, pedagogue, producer and director, she has performed
in these various capacities in notable Filipino and "Western" operatic, concert, stage, television
and cinematic productions. Possessing an Artist's Diploma in Vocal Performance from the
Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, she has appeared extensively in various international
performance tours. Among many others, her portrayals of Sisa in Noli Me Tangere by Felipe
Padilla de Leon (a role which she created), and the title role in La Loba Negra by Francisco Feliciano, will long be remembered as sterling monuments to a consummately commited artistry. Professor Asensio is a past Chairperson of the department.
