23 February 2004 MEMORANDUM NO. ERR-04-023 To: Deans, Directors and Head of Units Faculty and Staff Subject: Report UP Diliman Official Academic Costume ---------------------------------------------------------------- During the conferment of honorary degree to O.D. Corpuz, my attention was called regarding the variety of Academic Costumes worn by the faculty who attended the ceremony. While versions varied depending on the supplier and date the sablay was purchased by the faculty, 2003 commencement exercise was the last official function where the transition versions of sablay were allowed. For the past two years, we have been working to control the sale of unofficial sablay. For this year’s 2004 commencement exercise, I am happy to inform you that we were able to stock enough supplies both of the cotton twill and the hablon version. With supply available, I would like you to enjoin our faculty to use the official sablay approved by the U.P. Diliman Council in its 73rd meeting held 28 February 2001. Refer to the Faculty Manual, 2003, pp 301 to 302 for a detailed description. On the right is the photo of the official sablay. In addition to wearing the official sablay, it is recommended that the sablay be worn by females a midi or a long plain ecru dress or gown, but NOT those wearing a mini skirt. For males, the formal ecru barong and dark pants and shoes are recommended. For those who need the officially approved sablay, supplies are now available in cotton twill and in hand-woven hablon versions. Please contact ODI at 926-6590 or local 4382 for your supply of official sablay. EMERLINDA R. ROMAN Chancellor
