10 April 2006 Memorandum No. SSC-06-024 To: Deans, Directors, Head of Units All Faculty Subject: 2006 Summer Teacher's Leave ---------------------------------------------------------- We would like to remind all faculty members of the following regarding the availment of summer teacher's leave: "Such vacation leave shall be applied for and may be taken only during the regular vacation periods of the University, which is from the day after the commencement to the day before the first day of registration for the first semester." [Faculty Manaual, UP Diliman 2003, Sec. 6.2.2. a.2, p. 80] In effect the summer teacher's leave is applied for by a faculty member to officially serve notice that he/she will be excused from performing official functions during summer (e.g. summer teaching). Thus, a faculty member who is currently on leave (study leave with or without pay, vacation leave without pay, special detail with or without pay, sabbatical secondment) is not entitled to teacher's leave. He/she does not need to apply for such leave. Please take note of the following: 1. The second semester of the AY 2005-2006 officially ends after the General Commencement Exercises, 23 April 2006. 2. The summer teacher's leave will start on the day after the General Commencement Exercises, April 24 and ends on June 5, 2006. 3. The faculty shall begin regular service for AY 2006-2007 on the first day of registration of the first semester, June 6, 2006. 4. There shall be no summer teacher's leave for faculty members holding administrative positions and those with assigned teaching load for the summer period. 5. Faculty members not holding administrative positions or not assigned to teach or perform other functions should oficially apply for vacation leave (using the appropriate form), which is subject to existing rules and regulations. 6. Teacher's leave is not cumulative and cannot be monetized. Please be guided accordingly SERGIO S. CAO Chancellor
