COURSE TITLE Creative Writing for Beginners
COURSE DESCRIPTION A workshop exploring the potentials of creative writing as expression, as discipline and as a way of thinking about the society in which we live
CREDIT 3.0 units
I. Introduction (2 weeks)
Lecture/discussion on “creative writing” or “imaginative writing” and how it differs from other types of writing
II. Getting Ready to Write (4 weeks)
Short preliminary activities designed to stimulate the students’ imagination, preparatory to actual writing
III. Reading as Writers (4 weeks)
Discussion of selected texts (prose and poetry) as examples of the different types of writing which students will do.
IV. Workshops (6 weeks)
Short exercises in different types of writing, to be discussed in workshops, and revised under the instructor’s direction. Workshops engage students in an examination and assessment of their work through comments and suggestions given by every member of the class.
