FOR: ALL DEANS, DIRECTORS, HEADS OF UNITS ALL FOOD CONCESSIONAIRES ALL BUILDING ADMINISTRATORS

RE: WASTE SEGREGATION AT SOURCE

Effective __ August, 2005 (effectivity of new janitorial contracts after bidding) all janitors are contractually required, upon pain of P1,000.00 fine per batch of unsegregated waste imposed upon the Janitorial Services Agency, to segregate wastes at source, i.e., within their specific area of responsibilities.

New equipment consisting of a wheeled trolley and large, plastic, covered drums shall be required of the janitorial agency/winning bidder to enable the janitors of each building to wheel out the biodegradable (except slop waste) wastes to the garbage trucks which will effect a strict schedule of garbage collection:

  • M-W-F: biodegradable waste (TFSWM truck)
  • T-TH-S: dried leaves to be brought to arboretum for composting; (TFSWM truck)
  • M-W-F: non-biodegradable waste shall be collected and brought straight to Payatas.

The concessionaires shall be contractually required to perform waste segregation and in addition, make arrangements for daily disposal of slop waste by pick-up. In any event, slop waste may also be dropped off daily by the concessionaires directly at the composting site of the Task Force Solid Waste Management at the arboretum.

Recyclable waste in all buildings of UPD shall be collected by the janitors and sold to UP’s accredited buyer, ___________ and the proceeds shall be deposited in Trust Fund Account _________________ to cover the operating expenses of the Task Force Solid Waste Management headed by Prof. Armand Basug.

Non-segregated wastes duly inspected by the Building Administrators and CMO garbage collectors will be reported to the OVCCA for imposition against the Agency and/or Concessionaires of fines of P1,000.00 per batch of un-segregated waste.

Students should be cautioned to dispose of their wastes properly to help the janitors/concessionaires perform their duties.
