Authorized Visas for Studying in the Philippines  

A. Student Visa- [under Section 9(f) of the Philippine Immigration Act of 1940, as amended]
  • The student visa is issued in the PHilippine embassies/consulates abroad and not in the Philippines

  • The student visa is initially valid for one year, renewable every succeeding semester.

B. Exchange Student Visa - 47(a)(2)

  •  47(a)(2) visas are issued to officially designated exchange professors, researchers, and students coming from  foreign universities with existing Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the University of the Philippines

  • 47(a)(2) visa is valid until the end of the exchange agreement or scholarship contract

  • The visa is generally processed and issued here in the Philippines.  It can also be issued through the Philippine embassies or consulates abroad

  • It can be renewed if the scholarship or agreement is extended for a definite period of time

  • Exchange fellows and students are requested to immediately report to the OSA upon arrival to the University

C. Foreign Government Official or Dependents - 9(e), 9(e1), 9(e2)
D. Treaty Trader - 9(d)
E. Pre-Arranged Employment - 9(g)
F. Immigrant or Permanent Resident - 13(a) to 13(g)
G. Special Investor Resident Visa - SIRV
H. Special Resident Retiree Visa - SRR
D. Treaty Trader - 9(d)
E. Pre-Arranged Employment - 9(g)
F. Immigrant or Permanent Resident - 13(a) to 13(g)
G. Special Investor Resident Visa - SIRV
H. Special Resident Retiree Visa - SRRV

  • All of these visas can be used for studies.

  • The OSA currently does not provide visa assistance for the processing nor renewal of the aformentioned  visas (C-H).  International students holding such visas are advised to consult with their preferred authorized travel agencies and law firms

  I. "Balikbayan" Visa is valid for one year of study only.
