GUIDELINES ON STUDENT/GRADUATE ASSISTANTSHIPS

To ensure that the program does not adversely affect the academic performance of student assistants:

  • Freshmen students are not allowed to participate in their first semester.

  • Only students with GWA's of "3.00" or better may participate in the program.

  • Work hours of student assistants shall be limited as follows:

Academic load per semester   

Work hours per month

Less than or equal to 18 units                                   
Less than or equal to 21 units but greater 18 units

Priority in hiring student assistants shall be based on financial need. Student Assistants are assigned to research and other academic projects and related activities.  However, the academic units may require additional qualifications.  Student assistants should not be used in personal /private projects of faculty and staff.

GRADUATE ASSISTANTS
Graduate students in good standing can be employed as graduate assistants, for a maximum of 100 hours per month.

WHERE TO APPLY?
Generally, vacancies for graduate and student assistants are announced by each departments or units.  Announcements are usually posted on bulletin boards.

RATES
Student assistant  - P25.00/hour                              Graduate Assistant  - P42.00/hour

NOTE:
Recommendations/Basic Papers for original appointment/reappointment/renewal must be submitted at least 1 month before effectivity date. If not submitted within the prescribed period,  a request for waiver of the Board rule on retroactive effectivity with justification for the delay is required.

This basic paper must be completely processed and budget cleared by the offices concerned before preparation of the notice of appointment.

FORMS/DOCUMENTS REQUIRED    
Basic Papers (BPs)  for Student/Graduate Assistant must be prepared in 3 copies by the recommending unit. The BPs shall be submitted with the following supporting papers/documents:

  1. UP Form 442 (Information Sheet with 2 I.D. size pictures) 1 copy

  2. Community Tax Certificate No.

  3. Xerox copy of grades of preceding semester - 1 copy

  4. Xerox copy of the current registration form (Form 5) - 1 copy
