Sen. Edgardo J. Angara and Commission on Higher Education (CHED) chair Romulo Neri are the key speakers in the 5th International Conference on Teacher Education (ICTED), to be held at the Manila Hotel from July 24 to 26.
With the theme “Teacher Education Reform: Access, Participation and Quality,” the conference seeks to serve as a venue for international exchange of research demonstrating the initiatives and leadership of institutions in promoting access, participation and quality in teacher programs, projects and services. It also seeks to strengthen professional collaboration among countries through educational research, exchange fellowships and other learning opportunities and scholarships.
The conference is organized by the University of the Philippines’ College of Education (UP-CE) and has four plenary sessions, namely: Teacher Reform Initiatives in Increasing Awareness to Education; Teacher Education Curriculum Reforms; Models and Measures of Teacher Quality; and Global, Cultural and Political Influences on Teacher Education Curriculum, Deliver and Reform.
Angara will deliver the keynote address “Reforms in Teacher Education” while Neri will close the conference with “Challenges for Teacher Educators.”
Among the plenary speakers are: Metrobank Foundation Inc. president Anacleto M. Sobrepeña; CHED Commissioner Dr. Nenalyn P. Defensor; Dr. Manabu Sumida of Ehime University, Japan; International Institute for Rural Reconstruction president Juan Miguel Luz and UP-CE dean Dr. Vivien M. Talisayon.
Other speakers include Dr. Patricia Arinto of the UP Open University who speak on teaching with technology; Dr. Jill M. Bevan-Brown (Massey University, New Zealand) on provisions for children with special needs; Cecilia T. Ubarra (Intel Technology, Phil., Inc,) and Dr. Carol Oakley (Deakin University, Australia) on the Intel Teach Program; and UP professors Dr. Fe Nava, Dr. Aurora Zuniga, Elenita Que, Vanessa Oyzon and Dr. Julian Abuso on the dropout phenomenon.
