UPAK wins silver


Bognot, Villamayor, Gozum and Javier.

Once again, the University of the Philippines Association of Karate (UPAK) came home victorious as Michelle Villamayor bagged the silver medal in theWomen's +60kgs kumite at the Philippine Karatedo Federation's (PKF) National Championship held at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Manila from May 20 to 26.

This year's first karate tournament was participated in by three UPAK members namely Villamayor, Ramil Javier and Prado Bognot and coached by Walter Gozum, 3rd  dan black belt, Shotokan Ryu.

This was Javier and Bognot's first time to participate in a national event. Villamayor, however, is not a newbie in national games. She brought home the bronze medal at the PKF Nationals in 2005 bringing PKF National University and College Open in 2006.

UPAK's martial art education was sponsored by the  Karate Development Arts and Sports Association (KDA). The team trains on Wednesdays and Fridays at 5:30 p.m. at the Vanguard rooftop.
