Members of the Réseau Espérance de Vie en Santé (REVES) or the International Network on Health
Expectancy visited UP Diliman as part of the itinerary of the organization’s 20th Annual Meeting
held from May 7-9 at the Richmonde Hotel in Pasig City. REVES is an international organization
of scientists that pioneered and continues to lead in the use of health life expectancy (HLE) as
a population health indicator. HLE is a measure of quality of remaining life as it makes a distinction
between life expectancy and healthy life expectancy, which is alternatively known as active life
expectancy and disability free life expectancy. The meeting reviewed the Network’s history and
assessed its future directions. Papers presented cutting edge research in the area of healthy life
expectancy by the leading researchers in the field from Europe, Japan, USA and China. The event
was hosted by the UP Population Institute.
