The leanest and choicest selection in the award’s 12-year history.

Belamino

Wenceslao
“No shrinking violets!” best describes UPD alumnae Janet Belarmino and Noelle Wenceslao. With Carina Dayondon, the two women scaled Mount Everest, reaching the summit on May 16. The three hold the distinction of being the first Southeast Asian women to have reached Everest’s peak.
espite Wenceslao’s acute mountain sickness and Belarmino giving birth five months before the historic climb, the women were in good health and in high spirits after traversing the mountain’s North Side route (Tibet side), considered to be the more treacherous of the two routes (South Side route or Nepal side being the other).
Belarmino, a BS Sports Science major, and Wenceslao, a Bachelor in Physical Education major, are both alumnae of the College of Human Kinetics in UPD. They were also members of the UP Mountaineers.
