Professors now hold the top post at UP Open University and UP Mindanao.
The UP Board of Regents approved the appointment of College of Science (CS) professor Dr. Gilda O. Rivero as Chancellor for UP Mindanao (UPMin) and College of Mass Communication (CMC) professor Dr. Grace J. Alfonso as UP Open University (UPOU) Chancellor at its 1217th meeting on January 26.

Rivero, who holds a Ph.D. in Botany from UPD, handled Natural Science II and Biology courses at CS, until her appointment as UPMin Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, a post she held for the past two years. She held the Diliman Science Research Foundation Professorial Chair since 2000.
She succeeds Dr. Ricardo de Ungria.
Meanwhile, Alfonso assumes the post vacated by Dr. Felix Librero, who served as chancellor for the UPOU for two terms.
Alfonso has served the UPOU in various capacities: as Director of the Multimedia Center from 2004-2007, as Director of the Audio-Video Teaching and Learning Laboratory (1999-2004), and as Dean of the School for Distance Education Diliman (1995-1998).
She holds an MA in Art History from UPD’s College of Fine Arts and a Ph.D. in Communication from CMC.
