Strengthen the culture of giving, continue the tradition of gratitude and value everyone’s contribution to the college: these were the themes that underlied the College of Home Economics’ (CHE) recent anniversary celebrations.
CHE marked its 46th year on July 27 with a number of activities, foremost of which were the launch of the CHE Development Fund and the unveiling of the CHE Donors’ Board.
The Donors’ Board is CHE’s way of showing gratitude to people who generously support the college and serve as examples on the value of giving to students. The first donors whose names were engraved in golden plates were Dr. Patricio and Ligaya Reyes from the USA who donated an endowment fund to establish the Patricio and Ligaya Reyes Faculty Grant in Home Economics.
CHE opened the festivities with Pistang Pampapalakasan, a sports festival participated in by the college faculty, staff and students.
Other activies to mark the milestone were the inauguration of the Matilde P. Guzman Room, the naming of the CHE Library and the observance of the CHE Galing Awards.
CHE’s Food Laboratory was inaugurated as the Matilde P. Guzman Room. Guzman was the first head of the college’s Food Science and Nutrition Department. Meanwhile, the college library was named after CHE’s first dean, Dr. Presentación T. Perez. CHE librarian Emiliana Maniago likewise led the inauguration of the new Family Studies collection in the Archives Section.
CHE also recognized employees who were in service for 25 years or more, those with exemplary talents in the arts, and those who served excellently in the college.
CHE was established as a unit of UP by the Board of Regents on July 27, 1961.
