UPD has new HRDO head

Chem. Engg. professor mans the post.

Prof. Angela D. Escoto, a professor at the College of Engineering’s Department of Chemical Engineering (CoE-DCE), has been appointed Director of the Human Resource Development Office. She assumed office on March 1 and will serve until May 31, 2008

Escoto obtained a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering in 2001 and a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering in 1975, both degrees from UPD. She placed fifth in the Chemical Engineering board examinations in 1975. She earned a Master of Science in Chemical Engineering from the Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Massachusetts, USA in 1982.

She teaches chemical engineering, thermodynamics, thermodynamics of solutions, and heat transfer, among others. She joined the CoE as a Research Assistant in 1975, and became an Instructor in 1976, rising through the ranks to become Associate Professor in 1992.

She currently heads the Curriculum Review Committee of the CoE-DCE and serves as Associate Editor of the Philippine Engineering Journal. She was a member of the Diliman Academic Personnel and Fellowship Committee from June 2006 to February 2007 and chaired the CoE-DCE from 1991-1993.

Escoto presently holds a professorial chair from the Meralco Foundation. She was a full scholar of the World Bank through the Engineering and Science Education Project of the Department of Science and Technology from 1996 to 2001. She was also a Unesco Fellow at the Worcerter Polytechnic Institute at Massachusetts from 1981 to 1982.

She succeeds fine arts professor Dakila Fernando, who served as HRDO director from January 1, 2006 to February 28, 2007.
