University Scholars are undergraduate students who obtained an absolute minimum weighted average of 1.45 or better at the end of the semester. For graduate students, the required minimum weighted average is 1.25 or better. Student achievers, on the other hand, are UPD students who excelled in their respective fields and have brought honor, not only to themselves but to the University as well, by winning in national and international competitions. Also recognized were UPD students who topped or ranked high in national licensure examinations.

This year’s Parangal sa Mag-aaral celebrated the achievements of 2,387 US and 255 student achievers belonging to 25 degree-granting units of UPD. The College of Social Sciences and Philosophy (CSSP) had the most number of US at 410, 397 of whom were undergraduate students. The science and technology cluster produced 783 US, with 313 coming from the College of Engineering (CoE) and 226 from the College of Science (CS). The College of Education, meanwhile, had the honor of having the most number of graduate honorees at 59. Deniece S. Yusun of the College of Architecture and Christian M. Alis of the CS have the longest record of being university scholars at nine semesters each until the first semester of academic year 2006-2007.

Also honored were UPD graduates who placed prominently in the following regulatory examinations: the 2005 Bar Exam; the October 2006 Certified Public Accountant Licensure Examination; Chemical Engineer Licensure Examination; Geologist Licensure Examination; Interior Design Licensure Examination; the 15th Librarian Licensure Examination; the Metallurgical Engineer Licensure Examination; the Mining Engineer Licensure Examination; the Nutritionist-Dietician Licensure Examination; and the Social Worker Licensure Examination.
