
Dr. Dietrich Schueller, director of the renowned Austrian science academy Phonogrammarchiv of Österreichische de Wissenschaften in Vienna, is the main feature in Musikolokya, a lecture series conducted by the College of Music’s Center for Ethnomusicology (UPCE) from January 28 to February 1.
Schueller is also the 2007 Jikji Awardee of the Unesco Memory of the World Register, a distinction given every two years to individuals or institutions that have made significant contributions to the preservation and accessibility of documentary heritage.
He will deliver the lecture “Safeguarding Sound and Audiovisual Archives” on January 30. The lecture will be held at 5 p.m. at the Museo Intstrumentaryo Asyano at 2nd floor of the College of Music.

As part of the Musikolokya, UPCE will relaunch Musika Jornal on January 31. Musika Jornal is a scholarly periodical which deal with music research and/or contemporary music in the Philippines and Southeast Asia.
The activity will coincide with the 91st birth anniversary of the late UP professor and National Artist for Music Jose Maceda, who spearheaded the publication in the 1970s. Maceda is the UPCE’s founding director.
The UPCE will likewise present Schueller with a plaque of appreciation for his invaluable contributions to the Center, the inscription of the Jose Maceda collection in the Unesco Memory of the World Register and the digitization of the collection’s sound archives.
