Team shows great potential in an emerging sport.
The UP Powerlifting team men’s division won the overall championship in the Powerlifting Championships held at the Robinsons Place in Pasig City on February 3-4. Likewise, the women’s team was named overall champion in the Juniors and Class B Division and placed third overall in the Novice Division. The competition is a national event organized by the Powerlifting Association of the Philippines.

Rafael Solis (BS Economics) set a new National Juniors Record for the deadlift event with 240 kilograms. He was also named Champion and Best Lifter in the Juniors division (82.5 kg).
Other team members who played under the UP-Impact name were declared winners in their respective categories. For the men’s team, the following garnered the top spots: Joshua Raymundo (BA Public Administration), Juniors division (110 kg); JR Santos (Bachelor of Library and Information Science), Juniors division (67.5 kg); Dan Sison (BS Biology), Juniors and Novice divisions (90 kg); IO Talavera (Bachelor of Physical Education), Juniors and Silver Novice divisions (75 kg). Jehoshafat Laguyo (Bachelor of Sports Science) got Silver for the Juniors division (82.5 kg).
For the women’s team, declared champions were Charlene Eusebio (Bachelor of Sports Science), Juniors and Class B divisions (52 kg.), and Reah Supnit (BS Computer Science) Juniors, Class B, and Novice divisions.
The UP-Impact Team is supervised by Coach Ace Espanola and the former UP Powerlifting Team president Chino Uichanco. It aims to promote powerlifting as a sport and as a discipline in the University.
