The strength of an organization lies in its people. In the case of the NEC, this strength is reinforced by programs that motivate and provide incentives for its hardworking staff.
It all began in March 2006 when current NEC Executive Director Rowena Cristina L. Guevara created the Unity and Motivation Group, composed of Helen F. Sy, Arlene D. de Ocampo and Rea F. Bunuan, to dream up of ways to motivate and push the NEC staff to excel in their daily duties.
One of these programs is “THE O.N.E.” or “The Outstanding NEC Employee.” This quarterly recognition that was launched in July 2006 “aims to recognize worthy accomplishments and contributions of NEC employees to the organization.”
According to de Ocampo, THE O.N.E., the first of the its kind in UP Diliman, gives the staff due recognition as important members of the NEC.
“Parang usual na yung faculty [are the ones given recognition]. Pero yung mga employees na nasa front line, parang nabigyan din sila ng recognition.”
“Ang sarap kayang tawaging ‘THE O.N.E.!’,” she playfully adds.
The award carries with it a P2,000 cash prize, a plaque of recognition and bragging rights for the entire quarter courtesy of a full-length feature on the NEC Bulletin Board. So far there have been five recipients of the award. The latest recipient of THE O.N.E. is Norma J. Sosa from the Administrative Section.
The CoE has even come up with its own version last year entitled “Eng’gployee of the Month,” with Larry Valencia as the first recipient.
