UP Centennial Songwriting contest winners announced


 

(UP Diliman Information Office)—Entries from UP Los Baños (UPLB) landed the two top prizes in the UP National Centennial Songwriting Composition, whose finals were held on September 22 at the Abelardo Hall Auditorium of the College of Music.

“Balik-Tanaw” by Yuri Sta. Maria won the first prize followed by "Alab" by Marie Angelica Dayao. The third prize went to "Balikan" by Juro Kim Feliz of UP Diliman (UPD).

Judges for the final round were Ryan Cayabyab, Louie Ocampo and Judge Edgard Balsamo.

Six finalists from UPLB, UPD, UP Manila (UPM) and UP in the Visayas (Tacloban/UPV) competed in the final round after being chosen by a preliminary screening panel composed of UP Music alumnus Arnel del Rosario and Composition Professor Joy Marfil, both of whom were Metro-Manila Film Festival and URIAN Best Musical Scoring Awardees. Completing the panel of judges was UP College of Music dean Dr. Ramon Acoymo, whose songs were the banner anthems for the musical "Bahaghari," sponsored by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts.

The other finalists were "Tagumpay" by Adrian Gener Mangui-ob (UPD), "Atin na ang Mundo" by Jed Dycoco and Angelito Cinco (UPV) and "Panahaon" by Francis Gayon and Paul Gideon Lasco of (UPM).  The theme of the Competition was "Isang Daang Taong Kadalubhasaan" (100 Years of Excellence).

The competition’s finals and awards night was sponsored by the UP Centennial Commission.
