
Carlito Camahalan Amalla, a student currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Art Studies at the College of Arts and Letters, is one of the five Outstanding Youth Service awardees of the United Nations Association of the Philippines (UNAP).
He was recognized for “his versatility and excellence in theatrical and visual arts, helping young artists like him realize their talents by conducting workshops and seminars.”
Amalla earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts, Major in Sculpture from the UP College of Fine Arts in 2003 through a scholarship from the Pitoy Moreno and Imelda Cojuanco Foundation. A member of the indigenous Agusan Manobo tribe, he received the Gawad Kabataang Katutubo at the 3rd National Youth Indigenous Leaders and Advocates Summit on August 4, 2007. The search was sponsored by Tuklas Katutubo, the Office for Community Development of the University of Santo Tomas, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts and the National Youth Commission.
He shares the distinction with the following: Angelo V. Manarang (non-government); Aaron A. Tolentino (Philippine Normal University); May Mateo Celoy (Benguet State University/BSU); and Cheston B. Ciriaco (BSU).
The awards were given during the celebration of the 9th International Youth Day. The awardees received their plaques of appreciation from President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo at the Malacañang Palace on August 12.
