Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Philippines Liu Jianchao paid a visit to UPD last July 13, gamely interacting with students and coming away impressed with its facilities and academic diversity.
During the visit, which culminated in a lively dialogue with Political Science students at the College of Social Sciences and Philosophy (CSSP), Jianchao said the first thing that impressed him about UP was the beauty of its flagship campus, UPD. Read more->

UAAP Season 73 Opens
UP Pep Squad
With the theme UAAP: Where Heroes Are Made,the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 73 opened on July 10 at the Araneta Coliseum.
This season’s host is the De La Salle University (DLSU).
UAAP President, Bro. Bernard S. Oca, FSC, welcomed the honored guests, alumni, students, supporters and the varsity teams from eight competing universities namely, the UP Fighting Maroons, DLSU Green Archers, Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) Blue Eagles, University of Sto. Tomas (UST) Growling Tigers, Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamarraws, University of the East (UE) Warriors, Adamson University (AdU) Falcons, and the National University (NU) Bulldogs.

Car stickers now available at OVCCA
Car Sticker
Stickers authorizing vehicular access to the UP Diliman campus are now available at the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs (OVCCA).
Stickers may be availed of by the following: students, employees, employees’ family members, alumni, service providers (concessionaires) and UP Diliman residents (with or without connection to UP).

Bulwagan ng Dangal (BnD), the University Heritage Museum shone the spotlight on UP landmarks last June 18 with the joint opening of “Diliman: Tracing the Terrain” at the main exhibition hall and a re-mounting of “Monochromed Memories: UP Landmarks Centennial Exhibition” at the Bulwagan ng Dangal: Atelyer, respectively.

UP celebrates 102nd year.
Flag-raising rites opened the University of the Philippines 102nd Foundation Day celebrations at UP Diliman on June 18, 8 a.m., at the Oblation Plaza. UPD Chancellor Sergio S. Cao presided over the rites, with members of the Chancellor’s executive staff and the community in attendance.

The National Institute for Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (NIMBB) will soon have new home.
Groundbreaking ceremonies for a new building, located within the Science Complex along Regidor Street near the College of Home Economics were held last June 4.

2010 Dance concert welcomes Freshies.
Eight performing groups heartily welcomed the freshmen—UPD’s youngest and newest students at Handog Indak para sa Freshmen: Ika-2 Yugto held June 8 at the University Theater.
At the University Theater lobby, the Kontemporaryong Gamelang Pilipino or Kontra-Gapi played ethnic sounds of the gamelan, the traditional percussion orchestra of Southeast Asia.
Classes for freshmen starting 3:00 p.m. were suspended to enable them to attend the program which featured the University’s award-winning performing talents such as the UP Pep Squad, Varsity Freshies, UP Filipiniana Dance Group, UP Dance Company, UP Dancesport Society, UP Street Dance Club and the UP Percussion Ensemble. Freshies also had a glimpse of the performing groups’ profiles through a short video presentation prepared by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs (OVCSA).

Batch 2010 finishes with flying colors
Honors abound.
Of the 4,273 graduates from UPD’s 28 degree-granting units, 1,189 are with the highest academic distinction, making one in every four an honors graduate. Data from the Office of the University Registrar show that the cream of the crop is comprised of 25 summa cum laude (SCL; those with a cumulative weighted average grade of 1.00-1.2), 236 magna cum laude (MCL; those with a cumulative weighted average grade of 1.21-1.45) and 928 cum laude (CL; those with a cumulative weighted average grade of 1.46-1.75).Read more >>>
