Pacquiao a Maroons! Philippine boxing champ Manny Pacquiao dons the Maroons jacket, a gift from UP President Emerlinda R. Roman at the University Athletic Association of the Philippines’ (UAAP) games on July 6 at the Araneta Coliseum. Pacquiao received the UAAP Sports Excellence Award and the UP Centennial Memento at the event. It was also a victory for the Maroons, routing National University in an earlier game at 86-72. With Roman and Pacquiao are (left to right) College of Human Kinetics dean Hercules Callanta, Bro. Bernard Oca of De La Salle University, Ricky Palu of Ateneo de Manila University and Manuel V. Pangilinan, chair of the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. and Smart, two companies that have partnered with the UAAP to develop local athletes.
MSI wins prestigious international prize
The Marine Science Institute of the University of the Philippines Diliman (UP MSI) is one of the two awardees of the Calouste Gulbenkian International Prize 2008.
The MSI was recognized “its thoughts or actions that have made a decisive contribution to and have significant impact on understanding, defending or fostering the universal values of the human condition, with particular reference to respect for biodiversity and defence of the environment in man’s relationship with nature.” Read >>

CS dean is 2008 ASEAN Outstanding Scientist and Technology awardee
Caesar Saloma is the recipient of the prestigious 2008 ASEAN Outstanding Scientist and Technologist (AOST) Award.
The triennial award was created by the ASEAN Committee on Science and Technology in the early 1990s and is given to ASEAN scientists and technologists whose outstanding S&T achievements have been nationally and internationally recognized. Saloma will be awarded on July 7, 2008 during the 8th ASEAN Science and Technology Week in Manila. Read more>>
