Application for UP Portal Access Card

UPD tests new vehicle access system

(May 22)—Automated barrier gates, a new, technology-based vehicular access system to the UP Diliman campus, is currently being tested at the university’s secondary portals at Ylanan, Magsaysay, Velasquez and Jacinto Streets. The main entry, University Avenue, is not yet being tested.

UPD orients its freshmen

Freshmen orientation

(May 14)―Close to 3,000 students filled the National Institute of Physics Auditorium as UP Diliman (UPD) held its annual freshmen orientation, May 7 to 11.

Facilitated by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, the 5-day orientation served as UPD’s introduction to the new set of Iskos and Iskas on what to expect from the University and what UPD life is all about. Most were accompanied by their parents who were also oriented on the academic and non-academic activities inside UPD. Read more

Incoming USC and Kulé EIC take their oath

(May 6)— UPD Chancellor Caesar A. Saloma swore into office 14 University Student Council (USC) members and 20 college representatives during the turnover ceremony held on April 29 at the Vinzons Hall.

This year’s incoming USC is led by Chairperson Ana Alexandra “Alex” Castro and Vice Chairperson Julliano Fernando “Jules” Guiang who are both standard bearers of Nagkakaisang Iskolar para sa Pamantasan at Sambayanan (KAISA). Read more

UPD Police has additional patrol car

(May 2)—The capabilities of the UP Diliman Police (UPDP) received a major boost with the loan of a patrol car from the Quezon City Police District (QCPD).

The vehicle, a Toyota Vios, was turned over to UPD in a brief ceremony in front of Quezon Hall on April 29.

At the turnover rites were officers of the QCPD namely PSSupt. Richard A. Albano, Acting District Director of Quezon City; PPSupt Procopio Lipana, Chief Directoral Staff; PPSupt. Joel D. Pagdilao, District Directoral Staff for Administration; PSupt Nestor Abolos, Logistic Division Chief; PS1 Lerry Layug, Station 9 Deputy Station Commander and SPO1 Abner Guarin, Station 9 Supply Officer. UPD graduates more this year
One in every four is an honors student.

(May 8)—UP is known as the home of the country’s best and brightest, and a look at UPD’s latest batch of graduates supports that notion, with one in every four graduates finishing with honors.

The graduates. Data from the Office of the University Registrar show that 4,355 graduates stepped out of UPD’s hallowed halls last April 28, 3,436 or 80 percent of whom earned their baccalaureate degrees while 919 or 20 percent earned their post-graduate degrees. Read more

Vitug to CMC grads: use technology to improve people’s lives

This was the call award-winning journalist Marites Danguilan Vitug made to the graduates of the UPD College of Mass Communication (UPD-CMC) at the Recognition Rites held April 27 at the UP Film Institute.

2013 UPD graduates urged to be a hero in their own way

(April 30)—“Kung katulad natin si Andres Bonifacio sa mga karaniwang bagay, kaya rin kaya nating tularan ang kanyang kabayanihan?”

This was the question posed by Vincent A. Yu, summa cum laude, to his fellow graduates as he spoke on behalf of the graduating class during the 102nd General Commencement Exercises held on April 28 at the University Amphitheater.

Yu believes the Iskolar ng Bayan can also be a hero in his or her own way. He said “Hindi lamang sa pamamagitan ng mga mababaw na gawain gaya ng pagdorm sa Katipunan o ng pagtaguyod ng sariling org, kundi sa pamamagitan ng ating angking kakayahan, hangarin, at pagpupunyagi. At gamit ang mga ito, kaya nating maging mga bayani.”
