History

The creation of NISMED Library came about as an offshoot of the need to support the information and research needs of the institute.

A  shift  in  program  goal

from curriculum development to teacher training has invariably affected both the acquisition of materials and services rendered to its users. Computerization was then the felt need to speed up processing and service and with the grant given by the DOST-Science Education Institute, establishing a database of theses and dissertations was started. Under the library modernization program of President Francisco Nemenzo, the UP Library System embarked on the automation of libraries which resulted in wide area network projects and integrated library systems. NISMED for that matter has greatly benefited from these projects of the University.

Mission-Vision

The library envisions to be a user-oriented environment conducive to scholarly inquiry and responsive to the informative and research needs primarily for the academic staff of the Institute and secondarily, for the students and faculty of UP and researchers outside the University. To fulfill this mission, it seeks to provide access to materials in various formats; equip users with skills in identifying, locating, evaluating; and synthesizing information, and maintain a linkage with the University Library for a continuous collaboration in expanding the resources and services available to users.

Goals

In order to best achieve its commitment, the library staff strive to:

  • seek innovative approaches to serve their clientele in the best way possible;

  • meet customers’ informational needs by providing complete up-to-date information;

  • listen to customers and respond to their needs and concerns.
