HistoryThe Mining, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering Department of the University of the Philippines acknowledges the fact that learning is not confined to the four corners of the classroom. Thus, it has conceptualized this training program to be held in the various industries to enhance the knowledge that may be gained by their students while exposing them to the nature of the work to be expected in their particular field of interest. This program has been implemented to provide a venue for the students to put into practice the theories and concepts they have learned in the university. Finally, through this program, they will be informed on the advanced technological equipment and techniques currently practiced in the industry. Participation of various companies has played a significant role in sustaining this program through the years. The mining industries, foundries, and various manufacturing industries have become both a two-month-home-learning institution of the senior students for more than 30 years now. Recently, the growing semiconductor companies in the country also took part in honing the best metallurgical and materials engineers of the country. |
