LUCI ABAKÁN MAGALIT is the Grand Prize Winner of The Ultimate Pianist Competition 2006, where she was also the recipient of the Special Prizes for the Best Performance of a work by Mozart, Best Performance of a Filipino work, and Best Vocal Accompaniment and Chamber Music Performance. She is a two-time recipient of the Outstanding Performance Award in the Amati Music Festivals in New York and a Prizewinner of the NAMCYA Piano Category C. A featured artist of the Friends of CCP, “Bravo! Filipino” on 98.7 DZFE-FM, Opusfest 2008, as soloist with the FilHarmoniKa orchestra and the Metro Manila Concert Orchestra, Ms. Magalit has also performed solo and chamber works in Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, and New York. She graduated summa cum laude from the UP College of Music under the tutelage of concert pianist Leonor Kilayko, and earned her Master’s Degree in Piano Performance as a student of Jovianney Emmanuel Cruz. She is actively involved in the performance of New Music by Filipino composers and is currently an Assistant Professor of Piano, Piano Literature, and Music Theory at the UP College of Music. Ms. Magalit is also the Choir Director at the Diliman Bible Church in Quezon City.
