The Music Colloquia is an ongoing series of interdisciplinary fora
on the subject of expressive culture, in particular, on music-culture.
Begun in 1999, it is a series of formal paper presentations/open discussions
by faculty members from the U.P. College of Music
and from various constituent units of the university,
including a sizable number of visiting scholars and graduate students
from other universities in Manila and abroad.
Some papers reported "original" archival or field collected data,
while others reached a certain level of cultural interpretation that made them,
not easy descriptive journalistic writings,
but ethnographies.
Thus, topics presented in the colloquia have ranged from
historical musicological and ethnomusicological to the academic study of popular musics.
It is this diversity of topics that
characterizes the Music Colloquia at present.
