| The Software Applications Laboratory is a research and development lab of the EEE Department. SAL was established with the purpose of building capability in software applications development. Previous target applications include facial recognition, database systems, and web-based applications.SAL plans to maintain projects in web-based information systems, spearheaded by the DEEERS project.Other areas that are of interest are Java-based application development, J2EE applications, GNU/Linux software development, and ross-platform user interfaces.Future plans are to develop skills in real-time software development, kernel-space/driver programming, distributed computing, and embedded systems development. |

At the same time, SAL has the task of managing one instructional laboratory in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering: the SAL Training Center (STC). STC is where advanced computer programming and software engineering classes, and seminars are held. STC also supports several EEE classes requiring the use of software tools. This lab also acts as a training ground for future SAL student affiliates.
