Twenty-six new
environmental planners (EnPs) took their oath of profession during a
ceremony held on July 11, 2008 at the Club Filipino, Greenhills, San
Juan City. Board of Environmental Planning Chairperson Josefina M.
Ramos and Professor Rosario D. Jimenez, College Secretary of the
University of the Philippines School of Urban and Regional Planning
(UP SURP) led the new EnPs in reciting the oath of profession and the

On behalf of the
Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) Board of Environmental
Planning, Hon. Lirio T. Abuyan welcomed the inductees and guests to
the ceremonies. In a written statement, the PRC Chairperson Leonor
Tripon-Rosero challenged the new EnPs to strive for excellence in
their chosen profession. Chairperson Rosero said that the
environmental planning profession “is called upon to heed the nation’s
demand for meaningful and sustainable development”. Environmental Planning (EnP) is one of PRC’s forty-three (43) professional
regulatory boards that exercise administrative, quasi-legislative, and
quasi-judicial powers over their respective professions.
The 2008 EnP board exam topnotcher Kristine C. Follosco
delivered a response on behalf of the successful examinees. She called
on the new batch of environmental planners to become
planner-educators, who will share their knowledge with other planning
practitioners and communities and, in turn, learn lessons from the
ground. After congratulating her fellow “new bloods” and thanking the
families, loved ones, mentors, and colleagues, Ms. Follosco reiterated
one of the more crucial duties of EnPs “to plan not for but to plan
with our fellow Filipinos”.
Ms. Follosco is a
staff member of SURP and a student under the School’s MA Urban and
Regional Planning program. Leoneil C. Maranan, another SURP staff
member and MA URP student took the 9th place. Six other
students of the UP SURP were among the top 10 successful examinees who
received certificates of distinction from the Board.
Of the 26 new
environmental planners, fifteen (15) are from the UP SURP: Follosco
(first place);
Rosalyn-Frances
O. Marcelo (3rd place); Christian Alexis P. Yanga (5th place);
Yvette
G. Ravacio (7th place); Charlie E. Cabotaje (8th place); Maranan (9th
place); Imelda G. Lamboon (9th place); Elirine J. Siwa (10th place);
Winne Alexis G. Andaya; Edgar M. Chavez; Leiron Mark S. de Guzman;
Ruth Marie I. Equipaje; James E. Mariano; Michaelangelo V. Medina; and
Ronald M. Villapando.
Mr. Froilan L. Hong,
who was recently chosen as the PRC Outstanding Environmental Planner
for 2008, was the occasion’s guest speaker. The new EnPs were also
inducted as members of the
Philippine Institute of Environmental Planners, the national
association of professionally trained environmental planners. PIEP
President Nathaniel A. Von Einsiedel led the induction while PIEP Vice
President Roque A. Magno, who is also a professorial lecturer at the
UP SURP, hosted the ceremonies.
The new EnPs passed
the 2008 Environmental Planner Licensure Examination which was given
by the
Board of Environmental Planning of the Professional Regulation
Commission (PRC) in Manila on June 11-12, 2008. The Board is
composed of Chairperson Ramos, and members, Hon. Liro T. Abuyan and
Hon. Dolores A. Endriga.
