One of the research projects of the UP School of Urban and Regional Planning (UP SURP) spearheaded by its Director of Research, Dr. David Leonides T. Sponsored by the Toyota Foundation, the research is being undertaken by the SURP in collaboration with the Faculty of Design of Kyushu University in Japan headed by Dr. Kenichi Tanoue. Members of the SURP research team include Dean Candido A. Cabrido, Jr., Dr. Yap, Dr. Cresencio M. Montalbo, Jr. and the SURP research staff composed of Ms. Maria Lorena C. Cleto, Ms. Rosa Bella M. Gomez, Jr.

The BIE, in its website, named the top ten nominees out of fifty two (52) applications from 26 countries for the 2010 Expo edition. As part of the selection process, the ten nominees were requested to submit photos/poster describing the project which will be exhibited from May until October 2010 at the EXPO in Shanghai, China where “an estimated 70 million visitors and close to 250 participating governments, international organizations, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs)" will grace the six-month long exhibit on the quality of life in cities.

An international jury will evaluate the nominated projects during the EXPO and select one “not-for-profit” project that best contributes to the realization of the Expo theme as the winner of the BIE-Cosmos Prize.
