The
UP School of Urban and Regional
Planning (UP-SURP) and the United
Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) will host a
University
Seminar and Workshop
on “Strengthening Climate Change in Planning Education”
in Quezon City from March 1 to 5, 2010.
With the main aim of mainstreaming climate change into the
existing syllabi of UP SURP, the seminar-workshop also seeks to
eventually provide Continuing Professional Education/Development
for urban planners and practitioners both at the local level,
particularly among local government units (LGUs) and at the
regional level, particularly the Asia Pacific Region. Twelve (12)
international lecturers and guests from universities worldwide
have been invited to the said activity.
Recognizing the role of universities in contributing to
change
toward sustainable urban development, the
UN-HABITAT initiated the
Habitat Partner University Network, which aims at enhancing
cooperation between UN-HABITAT and universities worldwide to
enhance collaboration and facilitate exchange of knowledge,
expertise and skills among universities regarding Climate Change
and Urban Planning.
UP
SURP was selected to host the event in the Asia-Pacific Region,
while other universities in Esmeraldas, Equador and in Kampala,
Uganda will be holding similar activities in Latin America and in
Africa, respectively.
