Message delivered during the SURP 43rd Founding
Anniversary
Our guests of
honor, Vice Chancellor Lorna Paredes, Ms. Tina Turalba, President of
SAFFI, and Ms. Lele Raquid of
Geodata Systems and
Technologies, Inc.; colleagues; and friends, we welcome you to
this 43rd anniversary celebration of UP SURP.
As part of
today’s event, we are inaugurating three modest facilities of the
School: the GIS satellite laboratory, the student lounge and the
alumni office.
Despite its
limited resources, the SURP is striving to stay within the mainstream
of development advances in planning. This is why we put up a GIS
laboratory, which we hope to expand once we are able to get additional
resources.
We are thankful
to SAFFI for providing the funds to refurbish the GIS room and to
acquire 11 computers. Our gratitude also goes out to
Geodata Systems Inc.
for giving us free licensed copies of the software Arcview. The new
GIS lab will provide our students with the much needed hands-on
training in GIS-based mapping.
The student
lounge is a place where the students can meet, exchange ideas, and
relax before and after classes. It is also meant to encourage a
conducive learning environment.
We expect greater
involvement from our alumni association in soliciting funds that will
enable us to upgrade our teaching facilities and equipment. We are
providing the UPAA SURP Chapter an office where they can operate and
work closely with our faculty and staff members.
We thank all our
guests for attending the SURP’s founding anniversary this year. We
would also like to invite you to attend a Centennial Public Lecture on
Urban Renaissance Study in Korea, which will be delivered by
our first Ph.D. graduate, Dr. Byong Gyu Park.
Again, I would
like to thank Vice Chancellor Paredes, Ms.Turalba and Ms. Raquid, for
gracing this occasion.
Good morning to
all.
Dr. CANDIDO A. CABRIDO, JR.
