TMC - Master of Technology Management (MTM) Program

The Master
of Technology Management (MTM) program of the UP Technology Management Center
utilizes an interdisciplinary approach that combines business
management, engineering, and the social and physical sciences. It is the first
ever graduate program of its kind to be offered in the Philippines, and in the
University of the Philipppines. The MTM program
of UPTMC was established to accomplish three fundamental objectives, which are:
To provide students with a working knowledge of key management and policy
approaches and techniques necessary for managing and benefiting from technology;
Enhance the capability of business and public sector managers to forecast
and assess technological change, foster innovation, and harness technology
to increase the productivity of their organizations; and
Familiarize decision-makers, policy analysts and technology planners with
the social, cultural, political, and environmental dimensions of technology
and its role in national development.
The products
of the MTM program will therefore be the following:
Technology managers for both the business and public sectors
who can respond effectively to rapid technological changes and innovations
by harnessing these to enhance the productivity, quality, competitiveness,
and service of their respective organizations; and
Policymakers and analysts who are equipped with the knowledge and skills needed
to analyze the economic, political, and socio-cultural aspects of technological
change and innovation.
The MTM program should therefore
appeal to potential students who already are or are aspiring to be the following:
Entrepreneurs and managers of technology-oriented small, medium, and large
enterprises;
Administrators and decision-makers in government agencies and government-owned
corporations with responsibilities for implementing technology-oriented programs
and projects;
Policy analysts, planners, researchers, and consultants in policymaking bodies,
think-tanks, and non-government organizations (NGOs).
Program and project managers, R&D managers, and administrators of research
funding agencies and research institutions.
Course
Requirements, Schedules, and Fees
The MTM program requires
the completion of twenty-four (24) units of core courses, six (6) units of elective
courses, and six (6) units for a major project in technology management. Alternatively,
the student may also take free electives in other fields, as listed below.
Upon the completion and
passing of these academic requirements, students are required to take and pass
a written comprehensive examination before they are finally eligible to graduate.
The MTM courses are offered
on a semestral basis. The schedule of classes are convenient and suitable for
working students, as they are held once a week, in the evenings (6:00-9:00 p.m.)
during weekdays, and on whole days (schedules starting from 9:00 a.m. and onwards)
during Saturdays.
Tuition fees are at P1,000.00
per academic unit for students of Filipino nationality. Unless otherwise stated,
each course in the MTM program is equivalent to three (3) units of academic
workload. Normally, an MTM student enrolls in 9 to 12 units per semester on
a full-time basis, or 6 units per semester on a part-time basis.
