Incoming USC and Kulé EIC take their oath

(April 23)— UPD Chancellor Caesar A. Saloma sworn into office the incoming University Student Council (USC) Chairperson Gabriel Paolo “Heart” Diño, together with the newly elected student councilors, and Philippine Collegian’s (Kulé) new editor-in-chief  (EIC) Ma. Katherine Elona at the Office of the Chancellor on April 20.

Diño succeeded Jemimah Grace Garcia as USC chairperson while Elona replaced Marjohara Tucay as Kulé’s EIC. Both incoming USC members and Kulé EIC will start their term on the first semester of Academic Year 2012-2013.

The ceremony was witnessed by Prof. Ma. Corazon J. Tan, vice chancellor for student affairs, who delivered the welcome remarks; Dr. Rommel B. Rodriguez,  Office of Student Activities coordinator; and Dr. Roland Tolentino, College of Mass Communication dean, who provided an inspirational message to the new EIC.

In her welcome remarks, Tan thanked the outgoing USC members for taking their leadership and social responsibilities seriously without sacrificing their academic life. On the other hand, she encouraged the incoming USC members to uphold their duties without fear and assured them that the OVCSA is open to support their endeavors.

Meanwhile, Tolentino urged Elona to further strengthen the online presence of the Philippine Collegian to expand its readership and information dissemination. He also commended all the Kulé staff under Tucay’s leadership for initiating efforts to motivate other colleges to revive their own student publications.

Closing remarks were delivered by Garcia and Tucay, who turned over their projects and initiatives and shared some of their experiences as leaders to their successors. —H.C.P.
