CMC programs named CHED Center of Excellence
Two programs of the UPD College of Mass Communication (CMC), particularly the Broadcast Communication and Journalism, were designated by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) as Centers of Excellence (CE) in Broadcasting and Journalism, respectively.
CHED made the announcement through a memorandum issued on March 22. The memo also states that programs will “serve as potent catalyst for world-class scholarships, best practices, innovative curriculum, research and extension and professional development in broadcasting and journalism.”
Institutions identified as center of excellence may avail of financial assistance for a project proposal geared towards the improvement or development of cutting edge technology programs.
The latest recognition of the two programs brings the number of CE in the CMC to three. Just last December 11, 2012, CMC’s Communication Research program was also designated as Center of Excellence in Communication. — ACG
