Dr. Carlo A. Arcilla, Director of the University of the Philippines National Institute for Geological Sciences (NIGS), will lecture on the pros and cons of mining on August 17 from 1 to 4 pm at the 4th floor, College of Engineering’s (CoE) Geodetic Engineering Theater in Melchor Hall.
The lecture entitled To Mine or Not: Can Mining and Concern for the Environment Co-exist? is the third in the Culture of Excellence Public Lecture Series of CoE.
Dr. Arcilla took his BS Geology degree in UPD and graduated cum laude. He both received his master’s degree in Geology and doctoral degree in Geotechnical Engineering & Geosciences (Petrology and Geochemistry) from the University of Illinois in Chicago.
The lecture series is chaired by Dr. Georgina R. Encanto. It is sponsored by the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society Chapter 045.
