DMST has new commandant

(February 21)—Col. Jonathan G. Ponce (O-117682 INF (GSC) PA, is the new commandant and department head of the Department of Military Science and Tactics division of UPD effective January 21, 2012, replacing Col. Marcelo B. Javier, Jr. (GSC) PA (RES). 

He paid a courtesy call to UPD Chancellor Caesar A. Saloma last February 16 at the Office of the Chancellor in Quezon Hall.

A native of Ilocos Sur, Ponce served as Commander of both the NCR Regional Community Defense Group in Fort Bonifacio and the 15th Regional Community Defense Group in Bancasi, Butuan City. He also served as the Assistant Chief of Staff for Civil Military Operation/Spokesman for the 6th Infantry Division in Capm Siongco, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao.

Ponce obtained his a Master’s degree in management, major in Public Administration from the Philippine Christian University in 2005, the same year he graduated from the Command and General Staff College at Camp General Emilio Aguinaldo in Quezon City.

In 2004, he underwent training on the Law of Armed Conflict at the Xian Political Academy in China and completed the International Military Course on the Law of Armed Conflict at the Institute of Humanitarian Law in Italy.

Ponce earned his bachelor’s degree in Commerce, major in Management and Finance from the Divine Word College in 1980.—AKR
