(July 27)—The UP College of Education opened the 7th International Conference on Teacher Education (ICTED) on July 26 at the Bahay ng Alumni, with the theme “Leadership in Teacher Education: Fostering Social Transformation and Harmony.”
The conference provides an avenue for global perspectives and a comparison of best practices, innovations and reform among different agencies and organizations, all with the aim of shedding light on the transformative power of teacher education and leadership.
Chancellor Caesar Saloma, who gave the opening message, spoke on the importance of education as the way to Philippine progress.
“[E]ducation is a priority investment with tangible gains….Teacher education and educational leadership are crucial in the transformation not only of our institutions but also our values as a society,” he said.
Professor Emerita Winnie Monsod was the keynote speaker, who spoke of teachers as both leaders and heroes, inspiring not just the students under their care but also the people around them. —AKR
