UP triumphant in the 7th MAFBEX
(July 16)—Three teams from the University of the Philippines’ College of Home Economics’ BS Hotel, Restaurant and Institution Management program emerged triumphant in the recently concluded 7th Manila Foods and Beverages Exposition (MAFBEX) held from June 12 to 16, 2013 at the World Trade Center, Pasay City.
The Cake Decorating Team composed of Dorothy Gail Aguilar, Carolynne Arriola, Miriam Floresta and Vincci Gutierrez bagged the 2nd place with their creation, “Flight to Freedom.” Josiah Theodore Cacayan and Geraldine Feliciano won the 3rd place in the Best Cheesecake Competition with their “Bonito White Chocolate Cheesecake.” The trio of Sarah Jane Alemania, Hannah Timtiman and Karlone Kaye Catalan garnered 3rd place in the Seafood Cookery Competition with their dish, “Galleon.” Stephanie Cabana, Kristine Patricia Dilidili, Ruth Anne Isip, Cristina Isabel Luna and Marion Joseph Villar represented the university with their Table Setting Competition entry, “Our Unsung Heroes.”
The 7th Manila Foods and Beverages Exposition is an annual event for professionals, students and enthusiasts from the hospitality industry. The organizer, WorldBex Services International, had chosen different presenters ranging from local to international exhibitors like Italy, Malaysia, Japan, Korea, Taiwan and ASEAN. MAFBEX also featured a wide array of competitions for professionals, and students from eighteen hospitality and culinary schools. —College of Home Economics
