UP ROTC gets new Commandant

(June 20)—Col. Silvino A. Alcabasa CE (MNSA) PA, the new UP ROTC commandant and head of UP’s Department of Military Science and Tactics division of UPD paid a courtesy call to UPD Chancellor Caesar A. Saloma last June 19.

Alcabasa’s assignment is effective May 16, 2012, replacing Col. Jonathan G. Ponce INF (GSC) PA who was instated in February 2012.

He entered the University in 1975 as a student of the College of Science's Physics department before going on to the Philippine Military Academy, where he graduated in 1982.

Alcabasa then came back to the University and finished a degree in Civil Engineering in 1989. He is also the current Brigade Commander of the 51st Engineering Brigade. —AKR
