Linggo ng Parangal opens with the UPIS scouts parade


(March 7)—The UP Integrated School’s  Boy and Girl Scouts held a parade around the academic oval on February 21 as a kick off celebration of the Linggo ng Parangal, the annual recognition of achievements of outstanding UP faculty, personnel and students.

After the parade, the scouts proceeded to Quezon Hall for a short program. Among the guests were UP President Alfredo E. Pascual and UPD Chancellor Caesar A. Saloma who participated in the collage hand painting activity together with the UPIS Boy and Girl Scouts.

Highlight of the event was the awarding of the Parangal sa mga Natatanging Scouts administered by Atty. Jose S. Loriega, chair of the Institutional Scouting Committee, and RufinoT. Domingo Jr., president of the Kabalikat sa Scouting Foundation, Inc.

The program started with the singing of the National Anthem led by Senior Girl Scout (SGS) Gaela Pearl Mateo, followed by the Panunumpa sa Katapatan sa Watawat ng Pilipinas led by SGS Deneese Montalbo and Boy Scout (BS) Francis Eloriaga. Welcome remarks was delivered by Dr. Ronaldo M. San Jose, UPIS principal.

The scouts later took their oath and law as led by KAB Scouts (KS) Josh Airam Sabido and Rekz Nicholson Ruiz; Star Scouts (SS) Lui Hannah Mendoza and Alliah Bernise Omar; BS John Gabriel Cuachin, Senior Boy Scouts Eabriel Brian Gabriel, Noel Lava and James Liwag; Junior Girl Scouts (JGS) Urielle Lilang and Raffinni Angelli Domingo; and SGS Aliyah Rojo and Cara Mae Bilangel.

Meanwhile, thoughts for the day were recited by SS Isabel Baclig and Alicia Christine Silleza, KS Luis Vera, JGS Zachary Joyce Jugo, BS Michael Casama, SGS Nathania Marie Lumbre and SBS Justin Dungo.

Intermission number was provided by the Vocal Music Class of Leujim Martinez. The ceremony ended with closing remarks from Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs Melania L. Flores and the singing of UP Naming Mahal.—H.C.P.
