Quimbo family donates professorial chair to UP CBA


(May 18)— The Quimbo family headed by Vicente S. Quimbo Jr., a UP College of Business Administration (CBA) Distinguished Alumnus awardee, donated the Juanita Sansano Quimbo Memorial Professorial Chair in Business Administration worth P 1-million in simple rite on May 14 at the Executive House.

Quimbo, who is the founder and president of Bel Mondo Italia Corp. (makers of Novellino wines), named the donation after his mother who passed away last year.

During the event, President Alfredo E. Pascual awarded certificates of appreciation to the Quimbo matriarch’s living children present namely, Agnes, Vicente Jr., Francisco, Milagros, Concepcion, Jose and Asuncion.

Pascual expressed his appreciation for the generosity of the Quimbo family who previously donated two professorial chairs to the University. “We are proud to honor the memory of Mme. Juanita Sansano Quimbo who raised a family whose contribution to the University and to the country is worth to be emulated by others.”

Responding on behalf of his family, Vicente Jr. said “Though not a graduate of the University of the Philippines, we honor our mother, Juanita because she valued education as an investment for a good future for her children. She valued education as the key to shaping character.”

Among the guests were Dr. Emerlinda R. Roman, former UP President; Cesar A. Virata, former prime minister and former CBA dean; Roberto O. Alingog, UP CBA Alumni Association chairman, Dr. Ben Paul Gutierrez, CBA dean; and Dr. Erlinda S. Echanis, Professor Emeritus and former CBA dean. —H.C.P.
