Nomination Guidelines for the
2010 Gawad Chanselor sa NATATANGING MAG-AARAL
The University of the Philippines Diliman recognizes the contribution of our students to the life of a university, to the production of knowledge and to the future of the country. Among the ways in which this recognition is given is through the Gawad Chanselor. The Gawad Chanselor sa Natatanging Mag-aaral is the highest, most prestigious University award given to students who have attained a high level of accomplishment, maturity and wisdom. It is given for a body of works and achievements over the nominee’s entire period as a student of the University. The Natatanging Mag-aaral awards will be given this year to three (3) outstanding students – graduate or undergraduate – who have successfully combined academic excellence with extra-curricular achievement and leadership.
I. General guidelines
- The 2010 Gawad Chanselor para sa Natatanging Mag-aaral is open to undergraduate and graduate students. It shall cover accomplishments of nominees during the entire period of their stay with the University. High school records and accomplishments are not counted.
- The nomination may be made by an individual, college and/or by an organization within U.P. Diliman. Letter(s) of nomination must clearly identify the nominator.
- The nomination documents must be accomplished and submitted in five (5) hard copies and one (1) soft copy. The nomination must be accompanied with supporting documents, including the following:
- bio data of nominee with photo;
- complete CRS/true copy of grades and CWAG (cumulative weighted average grade) certified by the College Secretary and/or the OUR;
- certification from the Dean and/or College Secretary that the nominee is in good academic standing;
- certification from the Dean and/or College Secretary that the nominee has consistently carried a normal academic load, or the same certification of a justification of instance(s) of underloading;
- certification from the Dean and/or the College Secretary that the nominee has not incurred grades of “4” and “5” and does not have an unremoved “Inc.”;
- OUR-certified record of shifting and leaves of absence, and the nominees justification of the leave of absence, if any;
- certification from the Student Disciplinary Tribunal and the Dean and/or College Secretary that the nominee has not been found guilty in any disciplinary case in the University;
- recommendation from adviser/s of organizations to which nominee belongs;
- proofs of involvement and leadership in extra-curricular activities, e.g., photos, news clippings, certificates, output samples such as newsletters, etc.; and
- certificates, plaques, medals, trophies and the like that prove scholarship, leadership and other achievements (originals shall be returned to nominee/nominator while copies shall be retained by the nominating committee).
- The Board of Judges may invite nominees for an interview and may also ask for additional documentation.
II. General criteria
- Academic Performance. The evaluation will consider CWAG and other academic standards.
- Extra-curricular Achievement. The evaluation will consider leadership and membership in student organizations as well as external organizations that contribute to the development and welfare of communities, and other accomplishments such as exemplary contribution to the University. The length of membership and leadership as well as the degree of involvement, e.g. projects handled and their impact, will also be considered.
- Awards and Recognition. Honors received by nominees will be considered.
III. Deadline for nominations
All nominations should be addressed to and received on or before Monday, 1 February 2010, 5 p.m.:
