UP lady paddlers out to regain title

The UP Women’s Table Tennis Team paid a call on UPD Chancellor Caesar A. Saloma on September 18 to
present the trophy they won at the 3rd National Open Tuna Festival.

(September 27)—The UP Varsity Women's Table Tennis Team once again qualified for the final round of the University Athletic Association Philippines (UAAP) Table Tennis Competitions Season 76.

The lady paddlers placed second behind DLSU after the elimination round held on September 14, 15, 21 and 22 at the Ateneo De Manila University (ADMU) Gym.

Head coach Prof. Oscar Yoshihiro S. Santelices said they are really bent on regaining the championship they won in 2011.  Santelices attributes the team’s good performance to the rigorous training and the series of competitions they joined prior to UAAP. The team participated in the 2013 US Open Table Tennis Championships in Las Vegas from July 2 to 6, and at the 3rd National Open Tuna Festival organized by the Table Tennis Association of General Santos last Aug 24 to 25 where they won the championship.

The lady paddlers also had the chance to train with Bojan Tokic and two other celebrated European table tennis players during the workshop on European Approaches in Teaching Physical Education and Sports Science held last June 12. Tokic rank as number one table tennis player of Slovenia and number 43 in the world.

The final round of the UAAP Table Tennis Competitions is scheduled on October 2 and 3 also at the ADMU Gym.
