Organizational Structure and Functions

As presently constituted, the U.P. Press has three major divisions: 1) a publishing division, 2) a printery division, and 3) a marketing division.

The U.P. Press is governed by an Advisory Board with the Vice-President for Academic Affairs as chairperson. This body sets broad policies to ensure high standards, maximum productivity and efficient operations of academic publishing in the University. The unit is headed by a Director appointed from among the faculty by the President of the University.

The Director has been given the authority and responsibility for the direction and supervision of the operations of the U.P. Press. Under the general direction and supervision of the Director, the U.P. Press is expected to perform the following functions: 

   a) Solicit materials for publication from the constituent universities;
   b) Ensure the scholarly quality and publishability of materials for publication through a system  of academic peer review; 
   c) Ensure technical, literary and aesthetic quality of the publications;
   d) Ensure the adequate protection of the intellectual property rights of authors; 
   e) Provide desktop publishing and printing services for other U.P. publication units;
