Orientation of SURP
students
The
UP School of Urban and Regional Planning,
is set to hold an Orientation Program for SURP Students on November
24, 2009 at the Firmalino Hall. The School officials will welcome
the new students and the Director of Graduate Studies will
brief the students on the programs and policies relevant to the new
SURP Curriculum.

UPD and SURP renews
partnership with German university
September 18, 2009---The
University of the Philippines-Diliman (UP) and the Technische
Universitat Dortmund (TUDo) renewed their institutional partnership
in a MOA signing ceremony at the TUDo in Germany.
The
renewal which coincided with the 25th Anniversary
Celebration of the SPRING Program, was done in the presence of UP
Diliman officials: Chancellor Sergio S. Cao; Dr. Lorna I.
Paredes, Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs; and Dr.
Candido A. Cabrido, Jr., UP SURP Dean, and of their counterparts
in TU Dortmund: Prof. Dr. Walter Grunzweig, TUDo Vice
Rector; Prof. Dr. Hans-Peter Tietz, TUDo Faculty of
Spatial Planning Dean; and Prof. Dr. Einhard Schmidt-Kallert,
SPRING Program Head.

UP PLANADES and LAMP2
sign MOU
September 8, 2009---Representatives
from the University of the
Philippines
Planning and
Development Research Foundation,
Inc. (UP PLANADES) and the
Land
Administration Management
Program-Phase II (LAMP2) signed
a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)
for the joint conduct of the
Land Administration Education
Program.
The MOU is part of the Land
Administration and Management Project
(LAMP2),
carried out by the Department of
Environment and Natural
Resources (DENR) and Australian
Agency for International
Development the Embassy, that
aims to improve the
effectiveness and efficiency of
land administration and
management in the Philippines.

Vision
The
School of Urban and Regional Planning (SURP) as a globally
competitive learning and research institution in the fields of
urban, rural, and regional planning within an archipelagic and
tropical environment comprised of landscapes
and seascapes in a developing economy
The
School of Urban and Regional Planning (SURP) as a center for
learning and research in the development of innovative theories,
tools, and sustainable practices in urban, rural and regional
planning adapted to developing countries
Mission
The SURP’s
mission for the next three years (2007-2010) is to
further enhance its contribution to socioeconomic development
and nation-building by:
Improving the quality of education in the school and producing
highly competent planners.
Extending technical assistance to government, non-government
organizations (NGOs), peoples' organizations (POs), the private
sector, and other academic and research institutions on policy
formulation and plan preparation for the development of
localities, regions, and the nation.
Disseminating new knowledge on urban and regional planning
theories, tools, and practices through the school’s publications
and training programs.
Protecting and fighting for the welfare of society
-particularly
the poor- and promoting social justice and equity in the
formulation of development plans and programs.
Thrusts
Enrich
curriculum and establish areas of specialization;
Upgrade
teaching, training, and research facilities;
Enhance
competencies of faculty and staff on novel and advanced planning
methods and techniques;
Mobilize
resources to improve the school’s physical facilities, support
faculty and staff development, and expand scholarship programs;
Strengthen and widen linkages and networks with international
organizations and foreign universities for joint academic,
research, and training
programs, and exchange of faculty and publication programs;
Increase
enrolment of planners from poor municipalities in the
School's Diploma and training programs, through cross subsidies
and scholarships
